The Human Body Muscle System muscles is a soft muscle seen in most human body. Muscles cells contain protein filaments of actin and myosin that slide past one another, creating a contraction that changes the length and the form of the cell. Muscles function to produce force and movement. They are generally accountable for maintaining and changing good posture, locomotion, as well as movement of internal internal organs, like the contraction of the heart and the motion of food through the gastrointestinal system via peristalsis.
Muscle tissue tissues are derived from the mesodermal layer of embryonic germ cells in a process known as myogenesis. There are 3 types of muscle, bone or striated, cardiac, and smooth. Muscle action can be classified as being either voluntary or unconscious. Cardiac and smooth muscles contract without conscious thought and are termed unconscious, whereas the skeletal muscles contract after command. Bone muscles consequently can be divided into fast and slow twitch fibers.
Muscle groups are predominantly powered by the oxidation of excess fat and carbohydrates, but anaerobic chemical reactions are also used, particularly by fast twitch fibers. These chemical type reactions produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP) molecules that are being used to power the activity of the myosin brain.
The term muscle comes from the Latin muscle meaning “little mouse” perhaps as a result of form of certain muscles or because contracting muscles look like rodents moving under the epidermis.
